SLO Food Bank
Coalition of San Luis Obispo County
Donation Drives
One of the best ways to help the Food Bank Coalition is to organize a donation drive. With our low overhead, we use 95 cents of every dollar to provide food. And with our buying power, we can make even a few dollars go a long way.

Our supporters constantly surprise us with the way they tune the donation drive idea to fit their groups. Maybe one of these ideas will spark your own creativity:
- The Student Council at Atascadero Junior High held a "Miracle Minute" this spring. During one period of the day, students dashed from classroom to classroom, collecting dollars and change. They raised over $400 for the Food Bank while having fun!
- The staff of local hospitals often find it works well to simply take up a collection among employees for Hunger Awareness Day in June, then present the Food Bank with a check.
- The Young Farmers, a branch of the Farm Bureau, "passed the boot" at the Farmer's Market in SLO and collected over $1000.
- Uptown Jean Company also raised more than $1000 at Farmer's Market, asking people to "Fill the Jeans" with dollars for us.
