Host a Food Drive

Our truck visits the Performing Arts Center for the SLO Symphony's spring food drive

Holding a food drive can be a great way to contribute to the Food Bank Coalition. For people in your organization, it can be very gratifying to give food. The act of providing sustenance to others from your pantry or shopping cart is powerful for adults and children alike.

When we receive food from food drives, we appreciate the additional variety on our shelves and in our programs like our Senior Brown Bag. And every can of soup or package of pasta we receive is one less we need to budget for.

Over the years, we've found that food drives work best when:

  • Customers come to your place of business often. Starbuck's held a holiday food drive over several weeks recently and brought in hundreds of pounds of food for the Food Bank.
  • You can connect with people in their homes. Central Coast United 4 Change distributed food drive flyers throughout local neighborhoods, then came back two days later to pick up bags of food. The grassroots organization collected more than 25,000 pounds of food.
  • You have a large group of people associated with your organization, and you can motivate them through a challenge or holiday campaign. Preservation Capital Group of Atascadero asked employees and guests to bring a can of food to their holiday party.

If you decide to hold your own food drive, we can offer tools to help. We have worked with other organizations on press releases and flyers--just contact us in Paso Robles for help.  We can also deliver a Food Bank barrel to you and pick it up when it's full.

If you're not sure a food drive is the answer for your organization, check out how to hold a donation drive and group volunteer opportunities.
