About our Organization!
Our mission at the Food Bank Coalition is to alleviate hunger in San Luis Obispo County. We provide healthy food to 40,000 people struggling with hunger. Many of our clients don’t know where their next meal is coming from. We don’t measure our success by the quantity of food we deliver, but by the quality, because healthy food is not affordable for those we serve. In America today, the faces of hunger are not just a starving child or a homeless person on the street. It’s more often a family with parents working hard in low-paying jobs, having to feed their children with cheap, unhealthy food. So think of us as a nutrition bank, part of the solution toward better health and new possibilities.
Why do we deserve a new Toyota?
Did you know that many children go hungry during the summer because their schools are closed? That’s where the Food Bank Coalition’s Lovin’ Lunchbox comes in. We’ll use our new Toyota for many years to come, serving over 50,000 meals to children this summer that would otherwise go without. At sites around the county in low-income areas, kids are invited to share a Lovin’ Lunchbox and enjoy programs and activities. Receiving proper nutrition will allow them to grow up healthier and happier. Our new car will be used to train, monitor and deliver healthy meals to partner sites. One Toyota in its lifetime will change the future for thousands of kids, and that changes the future for all of us.
