Our Senior Farmers Market Program aims at connecting seniors who are unable to attend our regularly scheduled public food distributions due to a medical condition, lack of transportation, or being on a fixed income, to fresh produce. The Food Bank has identified senior living facilities where residents are typically low-income, medically fragile or disabled, and delivers vegetables and fruit directly to these residential facilities on a specific day each month.
We set up the distribution like a farmers market and senior residents can hand pick items they are able to use. At times we will have our CalFresh Outreach staff and Nutrition Education staff attend these distributions to provide additional food resources to seniors in need.
We currently have 4 sites and are making arrangements to have 8 by the end of 2015.
Our mission is to work with a network of community partners to alleviate hunger in San Luis Obispo County and build a healthier community.
