During the seven years she lived in Connecticut, she acquired additional skills in photography, marketing, website maintenance and social media management. Her continued westward journey brought her to SLO County, this time with a tiny house on wheels, where she joined the Food Bank in January 2018. Helen Collins

Donor Relations Assistant

Helen has a real estate license and has been in the business for over 20 years. She loves working with the all the lovely people she has met along the way. In 2016, she started volunteering at the Food Bank which opened her eyes to the many individuals who were truly in need of food, even those with high ranking jobs. Only a few months later she was asked if she wanted to join the team. Knowing that real estate was her first priority, she was enabled to set her own hours so that she could continue with her profession. Working at the Food Bank has now become a true passion of hers, and she is proud to be a member of a hard working team - from the workers in the warehouse who make sure the food gets out the door, to the staff and the CEO who all quietly contribute to the mission of feeding hungry children, seniors and families.

As a child, she remembers how fascinating it was to see so many different crops grow around her home such as strawberries, lettuce, wine grapes, celery, cauliflower, broccoli, and beans. In 2014, she moved to UC Santa Cruz, a city that is also well known for its agriculture. It felt like home to her. During her college years, she saw how important it is that everyone has access to nutritious food such as fruits, veggies, grains, proteins, etc. Ana volunteered at the Food Pantries on her campus. It wasn't just about handing out a bag full of nutritious food, she also brought awareness, helped those who were food insecure, and assisted individuals in applying for food assistance, such as CalFresh. It became her passion to make a difference in peoples lives. In 2018, she graduated and moved back home. Soon after, she joined our team and feels very happy to say that she is contributing to our mission.
