Ways to Help

This young man asked for food for us instead of birthday presents.

When you think about how you might join the Food Bank Coalition in fighting hunger in San Luis Obispo County, the sky's the limit! No matter what the size of your bank account, how much time you have available and what kinds of skills you have to offer, the choices are bounded only by your creativity and your desire to reach out to others.

One of the best ways to help us with our mission is to donate now. We stretch each contribution as far as we can, converting each dollar into about 10 pounds of food.

We welcome volunteers. There are opportunities in the warehouse, at food distribution sites, in our offices, on committees and at events. Enjoy camaraderie and the feeling of helping others.

Feeling creative? Many people like to take a traditional concept and adapt it to fit their own needs. Read how to host your own food drive or hold a donation drive.

One young man in San Luis Obispo came up with a brand new way to help. He developed a recycling program for his elementary school and gave the proceeds to the Food Bank. Learn about the Bottle and Can Plan.

The holidays are a great time to share with others. Churches, service clubs, companies and individuals help see to it that there's food on every table in SLO County. Find out about ways to help during the holidays.

With parents' assistance and involvement, kids can help the Food Bank too. In fact, many parents and teachers find that teaching children about helping those less fortunate really hits home when the lesson is about food. And although you need to be 16 or older to help in the warehouse, there are a variety of ways kids can get involved.

If you don't see what you're looking for here or you have an idea to share, call our main office at 805-238-4664. Or send us an email.
